Winnipeg- With 11 swimmers attending Senior Nationals in
Victoria, AAC sent a small but capable squad to take on some of the
Nation's best in Winnipeg at the 2010 Swimming Canada Age Group
Championships.
15 year old Robert Gilchrist led the way with a Silver Medal
performance in the 100m Butterfly, and appearances in Finals in the
50 Fly and the 100 Free. Joining him in Finals was 16 year old
Nathan Lee, who was swimming in only his second Age Group Champs.
Lee broke the 25 second barrier in the 50m Freestyle, placing 7th.
He also swam to lifetime bests in the 100 Fly (a 4 second drop) and
the 200FR and 50 Fly. Also scoring points for the team was 12 year
old Ryan Kelly, who was competing in the 13 and Under Age Category.
Kelly was consistently the top 12 year old in the meet, and
broke the 30 second barrier for the first time in the 50m Butterfly
on his way to an 8th place finish.
Chipping in with excellent prelim swims was Kirah Monks, who
lowered her 100m Freestyle time by nearly a second, and also broke
30 for the first time in the 50m Butterfly. Both swims were new
best times and narrowly missed the Senior National Standard. Yann
Desjardins cracked the Top 15 several times, with new best times in
the 400IM, 200BR, 100FR and 50FR. Braden Kingdon finished in the
Top 15 with big drops in both the 400IM and 800FR, and Curtis Voth
swam to new best times in the 100BK, 200BK, 200FR and 100FR. David
Malcolmson swam to a best time in the 100FR and 200BK.
Congratulations Athletes!
