Canada Cup Wrap-Up

AAC swimmers travelled to Montreal on the July long weekend to face the best in Canada at the third installment of the Canada Cup Series, and ended up facing some of the best in North America. This year's meet was attended by a number of the USA's top swimmers, including Olympians Cullen Jones, Elizabeth Beisel and Peter Vanderkaay.

Despite the heavy competition, AAC athletes fared well. Just turned 17 year old Julien Dodu lowered his club record by in the 800m Freestyle by 8 seconds, swimming to an 8:42.28 and barely missing the Senior National standard in long course meters. Dodu also cracked the Top 20 in the event that featured a very strong field.

Breastroker Julian Monks appeared in Finals several times, the highlight being his even split 2:23 200m Breastroke, a time good enough to win the B Final. Joining Monks in Finals were fellow Breastrokers Michelle Fleming, Karolina Gnat Darelle Cowley.

Fleming appeared in the A Final in all three of her Breastroke races, with a top finish of 8th place in her 200 Breastroke. Youngster Darelle Cowley hit the Senior National standard for the first time in long course meters in the 200m Breastroke, placing second in the B Final in a time of 2:39.74. Karolina Gnat, swimming in her first Canada Cup, appeared in the B Final in the 50m Breastroke.

AAC sent 17 swimmers to Canada Cup as they continue to prepare for Championship meets in Winnipeg and Victoria later in July.
