Press Release- Ajax Aquatic Club Head Coach and Director of
Swimming Matt Bell is pleased to welcome two new members to the
team staff for the upcoming 2010-2011 season.
Jennifer Porenta comes to the AAC Staff after 3 seasons working
with the Milton Marlins. Porenta takes over the role of Head
Development Coach, a position that will coincide with another
expansion of the club's membership base. Porenta will work with a
number of squads within this role, and will oversee the addition of
40-50 new athletes to the club structure.
Porenta brings a strong coaching resume, in addition to an
excellent swimming career in which she broke Provincial and
National Age Group records in sprint freestyle and relay events. As
a student and member of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues,
Porenta was also the CIS Rookie of the Year in 2004, was a member
of the National Team from 2003-2008, attended the FISU Games in
2003 and 2005 and still holds the current record in the OUA for the
200m Freestyle. Porenta holds a Bachelor of Physical
Education degree from the University of Toronto.
Joining Porenta as a returning member of the AAC Staff is James
Ayotte. Ayotte holds a Bachelor of Physical Education from the
University of Toronto, in addition to Bachelor and Masters of
Education Degrees. Ayotte will assume the role of Associate
Coach, and will lend support on a weekly basis to all areas of the
club. Ayotte was a OUA and CIS Finalist with the University of
Toronto Varsity Blues, and is a former AAC swimmer.
Porenta and Ayotte join Head Age Group Coach Misca Sommerville
and Head Coach Matt Bell on a Staff with a median age of 29 and a
membership that has shown steady growth in the last 3 seasons
despite a retracting economy.
"These hirings are another step forward in our efforts to
aggressively expand the size, scope and quality of our program.
Everyone on our staff have been teammates at one time or another,
and we expect that team dynamic to really have an impact on the
athletes. We all have a lot of respect for the truly great club
teams throughout Canada, and we know that putting our team in that
category will take all four of us working as a team week in and
week out until the job is done", said Head Coach Matt Bell of the
recent changes to the AAC Staff.
Porenta, Bell and Ayotte were all teammates at the University of
Toronto, while Sommerville, Ayotte and Bell were all teammates at
the Ajax Aquatic Club under Olympic Coach Paul Meronen in the
1990's.
Porenta and Ayotte will begin their duties on September 1st.
