Strong Swimming at CRLC

A small but capable group of AAC athletes hit the pool this past weekend at the Central Region Long Course Championships in Etobicoke.

Youngsters Alexander Gilchrist and Steven Taylor led the way in the 12 year old Boys Category, with Gilchrist picking up two Bronze medals (200IM and 100FLY), and Taylor claiming Gold in the 100m Butterfly. Taylor also added a 4th place finish in the 400FR, while Gilchrist placed 8th in the 200FR. Teammate Mark Cummings, also 12, picked up 3 point scoring swims, placing 6th in the 100FR, 200FR and 400FR. Fellow 12 year old Alexander Yousseff scored a 5th place finish in the 200m Backstroke.

11 year old Mark Burns swam to 3rd place in the 200IM, while fellow 11 year old Kelvin Brown had point scoring swims and best times in the 100FR and 50FR.

On the women's side of the pool, just-turned-14 year old Kristen Thompson placed 5th in the 100m Backstroke and placed 5th in the 200m Backstroke. Thompson also recorded 100% best times throughout the weekend, highlighted by a 6 second drop in the 200IM.

On the first day of the meet, veteran Braden Kingdon smashed his best time by 13 seconds in the 800m Freestyle, winning Gold and becoming the club's 18th member to qualify for the upcoming SNC Canada Cup meet in Montreal.

Well over 20 AAC athletes did not race this past weekend as they continue to prepare for Major Championships at the Provincial, National and International levels coming up in July and August.

Congratulations Athletes!
