The
Whitby
resident, a nation-ally ranked breaststroker, has been awarded Simon Fraser’s Diamond
Entrance Scholarship,

given for a combination of
ath-letic and academic achievement. Julian is studying mathematical
physics in the honours science program.
According to SFU’s athletics website, Monks and the other incoming freshmen are capable
of NAIA All-American per-formances individually and will
|
|
be contributing to the SFU
relay teams.
Simon Fraser has recently been approved as the first
non-
U.S.
member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and will
begin competing next year in Division II of the Great Northwest
Athletic Conference. Currently,
the school competes
|
|
in the National Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Keith Beavers, two-time Olym- pian and current Canadian record
holder in the 200-metre individual medley, has been hired as an SFU
swim coach.
